Choosing a summer destination is only half the job. The other question is much more practical: how much will You actually spend once You arrive?
The daily ranges below cover accommodation, meals, local transport and ordinary sightseeing for one traveller. International flights are not included.
In peak summer, accommodation is usually the biggest variable — especially on famous islands and in major resort areas.
Croatia, for example, can range from €60–95 per day for a careful traveller to €175–350 for a more comfortable trip, while Greece commonly falls between €70–200 depending heavily on the island and accommodation style.

1. Croatia — €80–180 per day

Dubrovnik, Split and Hvar deliver classic Adriatic summer, but smaller islands such as Korčula and Brас can feel calmer.
Travel tip: book July and August ferries and coastal accommodation early. Staying outside Dubrovnik and Hvar can reduce daily spending noticeably.

2. Colorado — €140–260 per day

Summer replaces ski slopes with hiking, mountain biking and road trips through the Rockies.
Travel tip: use one mountain town as a base instead of changing hotels constantly. Accommodation in popular areas such as Aspen can quickly become the biggest expense.

3. Scotland — €110–210 per day

Edinburgh and Glasgow combine easily with the Highlands, islands and wild coastline.
Travel tip: August is exceptionally busy in Edinburgh, so reserve rooms well ahead. A 5% visitor levy also applies to eligible overnight stays in Edinburgh from July 2026.

4. Portugal — €70–160 per day

Lisbon and Porto suit city lovers, while Alentejo offers quieter beaches than the Algarve.
Travel tip: choose local guesthouses and lunch menus away from the most tourist-heavy streets. Accommodation is now the main factor separating a budget trip from an expensive one.

5. Italy — €100–220 per day

Skip the most crowded parts of Venice and the Amalfi Coast and explore smaller coastal towns, northern lakes or hill villages.
Travel tip: travel by regional train where possible and stay one or two stops outside the headline destination.

6. Tanzania — €180–450 per day

The dry season is excellent for wildlife viewing, while Zanzibar offers an easy beach extension.
Travel tip: organised wildlife trips dominate the budget. Joining a small group is far cheaper than arranging private transport.

7. Utah — €130–240 per day

Red-rock landscapes, narrow canyons and huge open spaces make Utah ideal for a road trip.
Travel tip: begin hikes early. Summer temperatures in desert areas can become intense by midday

8. New Hampshire — €120–210 per day

Think mountain streams, lake kayaking, forest trails and small New England towns.
Travel tip: rent a car if You want to explore beyond one town; public transport is limited in rural areas.

9. Switzerland — €170–300 per day

Alpine trails, lakes and exceptionally convenient rail connections make Switzerland effortless but expensive.
Travel tip: calculate whether a regional or national rail pass makes sense before buying individual long-distance tickets.

10. Greece — €80–180 per day

Smaller islands can provide the white villages and clear water travellers want without the intensity of Santorini or Mykonos.
Travel tip: island choice matters enormously. Mid-range daily spending can stay near €130–200, while the most famous islands can exceed that quickly in August.

11. Japan — €90–180 per day

Combine Tokyo or Osaka with mountains, smaller cities or coastal areas rather than spending the entire trip in summer heat.
Travel tip: hotels near major stations save both time and local transport costs. Summer humidity can be demanding, so schedule outdoor sightseeing for mornings.

12. Northern Spain — €90–170 per day

Galicia and the Basque Country offer cooler temperatures, dramatic Atlantic scenery and excellent food.
Travel tip: San Sebastián can be expensive in summer; staying in nearby towns and using regional transport can reduce accommodation costs.

13. Curaçao — €120–230 per day

Small coves, colourful neighbourhoods and clear water make Curaçao an appealing Caribbean alternative.
Travel tip: rent a small car if You want to visit remote beaches; many of the most attractive coves are difficult to reach efficiently otherwise.

14. Uzbekistan — €45–100 per day

Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva offer extraordinary architecture and atmospheric old-city streets.
Travel tip: summer heat can be severe. Explore early, rest during the hottest hours and return outside in the evening.

15. Iceland — €160–300 per day

Long daylight hours make summer ideal for waterfalls, lava landscapes and extended road trips.
Travel tip: groceries and accommodation can consume the budget quickly. A guesthouse with kitchen access is often worth choosing.

16. Peru — €60–140 per day

The Andes, high-altitude landscapes and routes toward the Amazon create enormous variety.
Travel tip: allow time to adjust to altitude before attempting demanding hikes around Cusco.

17. Ireland — €110–210 per day

Summer brings long days for coastal drives, hiking and exploring small western towns.
Travel tip: do not build an itinerary around sunshine alone. Pack a waterproof layer even in midsummer.

18. Bermuda — €180–320 per day

Clear water, coral reefs and numerous underwater sites make Bermuda especially attractive for divers.
Travel tip: accommodation is expensive, so booking early matters far more here than saving a few euros on meals.

19. California — €150–300 per day

Choose a focused route: San Francisco plus the coast, Los Angeles plus beaches, or a national-park journey.
Travel tip: distances are enormous. Trying to combine too many regions usually increases both transport costs and exhaustion.

California

20. Morocco — €55–130 per day

For summer, coastal destinations such as Essaouira and Tangier are more comfortable than hotter inland areas.
Travel tip: explore on foot in the morning and evening, and choose accommodation with good cooling if travelling during the hottest weeks.

21. Czechia — €65–130 per day

Prague is the obvious starting point, but Český Krumlov, Plzeň and České Budějovice make excellent additions.
Travel tip: stay slightly outside central Prague and use public transport — connections are easy and accommodation can cost considerably less.

Choose by Experience

For a lower daily budget, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Peru and Czechia stand out. Portugal, Croatia and Greece offer a comfortable middle ground if You avoid the most famous resorts, while Switzerland, Iceland, Bermuda and parts of the United States demand a larger budget.
The smartest summer destination is not always the cheapest or most famous. Match the climate, daily spending and travel style to what You actually enjoy, and the trip becomes easier to plan — and much harder to regret.
